Our Treatments Help Reduce The Need For Antibiotics
Sinus infections are a common, but potentially serious problem, often caused by other illnesses. In my experience, sinuses rarely get "sick" without a specific cause. Anatomical blockage (cyst, polyp or other), allergic swelling, food, acid reflux, low thyroid, chemical irritation, viral infections and bacterial colonization of the nose are common causes. A physical exam, sinus CT scan and other allergy/lab tests can help establish a diagnosis.
Sinus surgery may be an option but is rarely recommended as an initial treatment. An exception to this is the correction of a deviated nasal septum (septoplasty) which can lessen anatomical blockage/compression of the sinuses. All treatments are directed at improving sinus drainage and lessening blockage, helping the body to heal itself.
Bacterial antibiotic resistance is on the rise, with several commonly used antibiotics no longer very effective. Antibiotics are not recommended for the common cold.
