Good Nutrition And Exercise Can Help Your Allergies
"Nutrition" is an area that affects all of us, yet most of us take it for granted that what we eat is healthy. Not so, with one concern related to too many calories, especially from carbohydrates. Patient awareness and understanding of their actual dietary habits and food labels (what they are eating) is essential for long-term health.
Food Diary
A food diary is a simple but educational tool to help each of us understand what we are eating. Include everything, including ketchup, non-dairy creamer, drinks and all other condiments. A diverse diet is encouraged. Read the food labels, looking especially at the first three (3) ingredients, as well as salt and sugar amounts.
Exercise
Current recommendations are for 150 minutes (30 minutes, most days) of exercise per week. Walking counts. The benefits are many – it is not just about weight loss. We suggest low impact activities.
Probiotics
This is a bacterial supplement which can improve intestinal health and the overall immune system. The intestines are an important part of our immune system and there appears to be considerable potential benefit, especially when dietary changes are also made. "Live culture" yogurt is a good source, with other forms (liquid and capsule) also available.
